At What Time Did The New Orleans Saints Enter Into The NFL?

The Super Bowl is a championship match for the National Football League (NFL), the premier association of professional American Football. The big game first played on January 15th, 1967 as part of a merger agreement among the NFL and its then-rival league, the American Football League (AFL). It was settled that the two leagues’ champion teams would play in an AFL vs NFL World Championship Game till the merger was consummated in 1970. After the merger, every league turned into a conference, and the game was then played between conference champions.

The Super Bowl uses Roman numerals to identify each game, and not the year during which it is held. Super Bowl I was performed in 1967 to see the champions of the regular season played in 1966, and Super Bowl XLIV was played on February 7th, 2010 to find out the champion of the 2009 regular season.

The New Orleans Saints are an experienced American football team headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. They are the present champions of the National Football League (NFL) and play within the South Division in the National Football Conference (NFC).

The Saints were established in 1967 as an expansion team and played their domicile games from Tulane Stadium during the 1974 season. They went more than a decade before they managed to finish a season with a .500 achievement, twenty years before having a triumphant season, and over four decades before reaching the Super Bowl. The team’s initial triumphant years were from 1987-1992, when the team made the playoffs 4 times and had winning records in the non-playoff seasons. Within the 2000 season, the Saints beat the then-defending Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams for the teams first playoff win.

The Saints reached the NFC Championship Game in the 2006 season but were defeated 39-14 against the Chicago Bears. They repeated this feat in their most flourishing season in 2009, but would win the game and their first conference championship that sent them to their first Super Bowl appearance. At Super Bowl XLIV, the Saints won the city of New Orleans its first league championship, beating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17. On September 17th 1967 the Saints took the field for their first regular season game before 80,879 fans at ancient Tulane Stadium. The Saints got things going with a bang as rookie running back John Gilliam returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown. Nonetheless the Saints would be beaten at the opening game with the Los Angeles Rams 27-13. The Saints wouldn’t win their first game until November 5th when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 31-24, as Walt Roberts scored three touchdowns. The Saints would finally end up their first season with a 3-11 record.
