I was more than bored this afternoon and thought I’d write a quick blog post on gas fireplaces. We had something happen yesterday that made me think of it. Somehow I don’t think anyone is going to send this particular blog post viral.
So what should we talk about today? I’m thinking about my in-laws vent free gas fireplace. Come to think of it my parents have one, too. Yesterday was an interesting example of how two seemingly identical items can actually be quite different.
Out of nowhere we suddenly lost power and it covered a three county area. Lucky for us it wasn’t a big deal, not like what the northeast went throughso it wasn’t a crisis, but if it had been I was thinking that my parents and in-laws had gas fireplaces and would be just fine. However, my parents have one that still requires an electric switch, while my in-laws are completely independent of all electricity. Theirs actually functioned.
Paying attention to details is a good idea when buying fireplaces. Does it still require electricity and would that ever affect you? In this case it did. But all ended well when the power came back on.
I’ve also learned there are different types of these fireplaces, including those that run on propane and those than run on natural gas. There are still accessory items that are needed and you also have to think about ventless gas fireplaces or direct vent models. Honestly, it’s sometimes enough to make your head spin.
